August 20th and September 3rd of this year marks the sixth anniversary of the deaths of my father and mother.  They met on the streetcar in 1937, but my mom was dating somebody else at the time and she didn’t much care for “that noisy boy with the pipe.”  My dad was nothing if not persistent and they eventually married on December 22, 1941.  They likened themselves to the cardinals who mated for life.  Today, whenever I see these beautiful birds, I smile and take comfort in believing my parents are still together.

When sharing your life
with one who means more to you
than everything else combined,
a seed will take root
and grow stronger forever.
