Free Day

Poetic Asides November 2013 Poem-A-Day Challenge – Day 26: a “free [blank]” or “[blank] free” poem

Free Day

Free day.
Closing textbooks.
Turning off the computer.
Taking the time to be selfish
until I’m needed here.

Free day.
What a concept!
The world outside of my house
is calling me for adventure
unless I’m needed here.

Free day.
It’s been so long,
I can’t recall how it’s done.
It doesn’t seem quite right to me.
What if I’m needed here?

Free day.
I might have fun,
but two dogs don’t look happy
and big, brown eyes beg me to stay.
They say I’m needed here.

Free day?
I don’t think so.
I appreciate the thought,
but I have canine games to play.
You see, I’m needed here.
