Zoning Disorder

A patchwork quilt of boarded
windows and broken spirits
floats in shards of bloodied glass.
A city cries
from wounds that won’t heal.

The news reports progress
but a varnished lie cannot
conceal pain.

A year after the Baltimore riots, our city struggles to move forward but beneath the mask we wear, we remain disfigured.
